Online sales of auto accessories continue to outpace the
brick-and-mortar sales in 2013. The growth in online sales of the auto parts
has been much quicker in comparison to other industries for years. It’s nearly
the end of the year and in this year the trend had been continued as well. It
was forecasted in the mind of the year that the online sales of auto electrical
parts to grow by 15.5% from the year 2012. It was projected that online sales
of the automotive accessories to be $4.4 billion dollars approximately in 2013
from $3.8 billion in the last year.
This amount is completely the sales of auto electrical supplies. It didn’t include the online auctions. If
that would have been included then there would have been a dramatic increase in
the number.
If you see the auto aftermarket industry stats, you will
find that the 15.5% growth by the online retail shops follows a 16.5% increase
in just one year (2011 to 2012) and an increase of 12.4% from 2010 to 2011.
When contrasted to online retailing, this year’s start was
slow for several brick-and-mortar manufacturers and retailers. A number of companies
even came in below their sales predictions. We need to see how this year will
end up for the brick-and-mortar retailers . However, presently, we have
evaluated the slowest growth year since 2009-the year which a lot of us would
love to forget. In the first half of this year, the brick and mortar shop sales
of auto accessories only showed a 1.5-2% growth rate. Most of the aftermarket
businesses seem to be flat or up vs previous year.
So, what do you think is driving growth in the online sales
other than overall shift to over the web? Amazon is helping lead the way.
Amazon a year ago shows a very high growth rate in auto parts, around 30-40%
over its previous year. This year however it’s a bit slow. Although eBay Motors
are not growing that quick as they were last year, they are still moving a
large number of auto parts every week.
Another factor, which is motivating online sales comes from
online retailers who used to sell on Amazon and eBay. Presently, due to rising
fees on these sites, some retailers started to offer their customers the option
of buy auto accessories online by
developing their own sites. Many of these retailers have even become aggressive
in 2013 with SEO and paid search for attracting more customers.
