5 Sources of Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is those energy resources, which are replenished naturally and are found in abundance on earth surface .For example, energy generated from sunlight, wind, geo thermal are considered as renewable energy. Here is some information about the five sources of renewable energy.

1. Solar Energy- Here the source of energy is Sun and it is considered one of the most important sources of renewable energy. Solar energy is used for heating, lighting, water heating etc. Most of the forms of renewable energy come either indirectly or directly from the sun. For instance, heat from the sun causes the trees to grow. They also play an important role in the cycle of precipitation and evaporation, which makes hydropower possible.

2. Biomass Energy- Biomass is an essential source of energy.Wood is the most common source of biomass energy. Other sources of this energy include grasses, crops, organic components from industrial and municipal wastes, forestry waste and methane gas harvested from the community landfills. Biomass is used for producing electricity and as fuel for transportation.

3. Wind Energy- This energy is that energy which is used in sailing ships and for driving windmills. The source of energy is wind and it is derived by converting the wind energy by wind turbines and makes it available in useful form such as electricity. Wind energy accounts for more than 1.5%in worldwide use of electricity. It is becoming a popular source of energy and these days many sustainable energy consultants are coming into the front such as Enhar, which is a leading energy consultant and provides implementation of wind energy in Victoria.

4. Geothermal Energy- It is a cost effective, reliable and eco friendly source of renewable energy used for generating electricity but it has its limitations since it is accessible in those areas situated near tectonic plate boundaries.

5. Hydroelectricity- This energy is derived from the generation of power by using the gravitational force of the flowing water. This source of energy is eco friendly and small hydro electric power systems can be installed in small streams and rivers for generating electricity.

Light your life with LEDs

We all love the lamp at the corner of our drawing room. We love it more when people admire it. We tend to seat guests beside it just to brag about it. But we also hate it the most when we see the electricity bills.

Well, time to switch to the new generation LED. LED are the bright white lights that you tend to come across in television ads and the megastores. Wrapped in cardboard cases they flaunt of the energy they save, illuminating your room.

LED stands for light emitting diode. It is nothing but a semi-conductor diode which glows with the amount of voltage provided. Today, they are everywhere! From parks to offices, to roadside lights, to your home, they are illumining everywhere.

Though flooding the market in recent times, replacing all other kinds of lights and bulbs, they have been there for quite some time now.  One can date the technology back to about 50 years. Efficiency in saving energy as light bulbs brought them to the shelves of the stores that tended us to believe of it as a new kind of bulb that saves energy.

Gleaming are our study tables. Buffed up are our offices. Complaints of eye problems in the world have significantly fallen and so has the rate of dissatisfaction towards lighting sources. Thanks to LED lights and bulbs.

LED Lights and bulbs are also proven means of lighting sources to short distances and small areas; as in they require only 30-60 mill watts to operate.  They have a longer lifespan than CFL. The LED’s come with useful applications. One such example would be the reduction of stray light in street lamps.

Saving power and money is the newest motto in the towns. All we want are LED’s. They are available in various shapes and prices, and are manufactured by a number of companies worldwide. Firms selling Led Products brought out its USP in the brightening and the savings. Almost all the ads stand on the basis of the savings that the product brings with it.

Easy Methods of Energy Conservation

Energy conservation is the process of reducing energy quantities, which are used for various purposes. It is done to save energy for future consumption. Here are a few easy methods of energy conservation.

Install LED lights and bulbs- One of the easy methods of energy conservation is using LED lights and bulbs. So, if you are using incandescent bulbs, stop using them. LED lights are much more energy efficient and lasts longer than incandescent bulbs. One LED bulb can last for twenty years. It is also environment friendly with almost no ultraviolet emissions.

Do not keep electrical appliances on standby condition- Don’t forget to switch off your television and computer sets at the wall when you are not watching it. It can conserve a lot of energy.

Put an insulation blanket over your water heater- Covering your water heater with an insulation blanket can conserve a lot of energy. Also setting the thermostat not more than 50 degree Celsius is another effective method of energy conservation.

Use lids while cooking- This will help in saving energy. Also using pressure cookers can save around 70 percent of the energy.

Planting trees
- It not only absorbs carbon dioxide emissions but also cuts down the air conditioning bill by 10 to 15 percent.

Using renewable source of energy- Renewable source of energy like the wind and solar energy can be easily replenished despite using it several times.Unlike coal and petroleum it is not easily exhausted. Thus it helps in conserving energy.

Recycling of organic wastes- By recycling organic wastes one can cut down methane emissions. We should recycle organic waste and compose it in places like garden.

Using plug in thermostat- By using a digital plug in thermostat one can save up to 10 percent of the electricity costs.

Walk instead of driving- Walking instead of driving is an effective method of energy conservation. Car driving for miles of distance can give rise to carbon dioxide emissions. So it is better to walk than drive.

Regularly defrost your old refrigerators- Some refrigerators have inbuilt automatic defrosting cycles. But it is best to replace the old refrigerator with a newer one. The new refrigerators are two times more energy efficient than older ones.
